Why a Marine Battery Isn't the Same as a Car Battery
A standard automotive battery is built for one job: a short, powerful burst of cranking amps to start the engine, then it's topped back off by the alternator almost immediately. A marine battery has to do more — many boats draw power steadily over hours (electronics, lights, a trolling motor) and then need to be recharged, not just started once. That's why marine batteries are commonly built as deep-cycle or dual-purpose (cranking and deep-cycle combined), and constructed to hold up to the vibration and motion of being on the water in a way a standard car battery isn't designed for.
Using the wrong type can mean a battery that dies faster than it should, or one that isn't built for that on-the-water motion — worth checking before you buy, not after.
